ANNA MATZ

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Cinema and Media Arts at Biola University. I am an utter romantic, and Los Angeles won me over immediately. My career as an intern and eventually as an assistant in Hollywood was buffeted by long nights, tedious tasks, low bank accounts, and the occasional sob. But through all that, my desire to persevere never faltered. I knew, even then, that this was just the beginning of my story. In traditional romantic fashion, the difficulties and challenges I faced became the montage sequence— accented by my favorite songs, encouragement by my incredible friends and family, and small moments of victory that made it all worth it. To me life is the accumulation of all the little things. Every day I strive to enjoy the sunset while I’m stuck in traffic, listen faithfully to whoever shares their story with me, and laugh generously. I believe in a world where stories are all around me, intersecting and interceding, and I work diligently every day to recognize them and somehow translate them onto the page for others to experience.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Love You Anyway (Drama, Romance) – The evolving formats of home video chronicle the life of a young girl from birth to womanhood as she experiences the highs and lows that life has to offer alongside her childhood best friend. We follow Mackenzie on an empathetic journey as she develops, confronts, and ultimately learns how to live with her depression alongside the people who love her most.

This is a story of hope and triumph, of struggle and perseverance, and ultimately a testament to the simple idea that no matter what you’ve done or what you think you’ve become, someone will always love you anyway. In this time of COVID-19, we are all experiencing isolation on a new level, but this feeling, sadly, is one very familiar to those who struggle with mental health. This story is dedicated to creating a means of empathizing, understanding, and overcoming the depression that isolates so many young people.
