One-to-One: Ron & Oge

A new friendship blossoms when Ron and Oge, two people from different walks of life, come together at a special community building event in downtown Los Angeles.

Ron is unhoused. He sometimes feels invisible.

At Be Love’s Skid Row Carnival of Love in downtown Los Angeles, volunteer Oge was randomly assigned to Ron. Oge and Ron believe that everyone is deserving of love.

Oge truly sees Ron. She sees him as a friend, a father-figure, and a person. He is not invisible anymore. Their connection remains.

Ron is unhoused. He sometimes feels invisible. He went to Be Love’s Skid Row Carnival of Love with no expectations. He was randomly assigned a volunteer to take him around for the day.  Oge went to volunteer at Be Love’s Skid Row Carnival of Love with no expectations. She was assigned to escort Ron. The two come from very different backgrounds, but they found common ground through love, friendship and understanding. Ron is not invisible anymore.

Be Love’s annual Skid Row Carnival of Love is the largest event of its kind in the United States serving our unhoused neighbors in, and around, downtown Los Angeles. Occupying over 20,000 square feet in the heart of Skid Row, the Carnival’s 2,000 volunteers serve over 4,000 guests each year delivering resources provided by government, non-profit, and private partners.

Our program has expanded across Los Angeles County and Chicago, in partnership with SocialWorks and Taste for the Homeless. Through strategic planning and partnerships like these, Be Love plans to take the Carnival of Love program nationwide.

The Be Love Organization has been serving people on the streets of Los Angeles for over five years – bringing love, dignity and compassion to people experiencing homelessness.  Angelenos want to be part of the solution and they’re seeking meaningful and powerful ways to take action. Our programs engage thousands of volunteers who, working side-by-side with their unhoused neighbors, will help bring an end to homelessness.

We believe homelessness can be solved.  We believe it’s up to all of us to make it happen.
